Vic: Head of police ethical standards quits over Hookes files
MELBOURNE, Feb 13 AAP - The head of the police ethical standards department has quit
amid the accessing of files on the man charged over cricketer David Hookes' death, the
Herald Sun reported today.
Assistant Commissioner Noel Perry - who is in charge of investigating police corruption,
including the unauthorised access of police files - tendered his resignation a fortnight
ago, the paper said.
Mr Perry was reported as saying he was leaving for personal reasons.
"Details of Mr Perry's departure emerged yesterday, with details that up to 35 officers
were being investigated for checking the files of Zdravko Micevic, the man accused of
killing former Test cricketer David Hookes," the paper said.
"Senior sources told the Herald Sun the 39-year-police veteran was leaving because
of growing differences with Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon.
"Recent controversies he has dealt with include the police files scandals and drug
squad corruption and a recent decision to launch court action against an officer despite
a recommendation by the Office of Public Prosecution the case not proceed."
