Tas: Two men missing in remote bush
MELBOURNE, Aug 26 AAP - Tasmanian police were today stepping up the search for two
men who failed to return from a day trip in the state's remote south-west yesterday.
The police helicopter was to be brought in at first light to search an area south of
Queenstown, 250 kilometres west of Hobart, to search for the two men.
They set off for a bush area 1.5 kilometres south of the King River power station at
10am yesterday.
A search involving local police and Parks and Wildlife officers began after the alarm
was raised about 7pm yesterday.
Tasmania Police Inspector Mark Beech-Jones said the men were not prepared for an overnight
trip and wore only casual clothing, but they were "reasonably fit" and had good local
knowledge of the area.
Weather conditions were mild in the area overnight, with a minimum between five and
six degrees, Insp Beech-Jones said.
